Carolyn Grace (Mcgowan) Torres

Carolyn Grace (McGowan) Torres, 60, of Independence, MO went to be with the Lord on March 20, 2018 at CenterPoint Medical Center in Independence, MO. She died unexpectedly from complications of pneumonia. Carolyn was born on November 17, 1957 in Kansas City, MO to Robert and Charlene (McIntire) McGowan. Carolyn grew up in Shawnee Mission, KS. She later lived in Independence, MO for 35 years.

Carolyn played a key role in starting Torres Consulting Engineers in 1983, helping to establish it as a successful engineering practice. She continued working there for 25 years as the Office Manager. Later, she worked at the Boy Scouts of America as an Accounting and Payroll Specialist for 14 years.

Carolyn, a dedicated mother and grandmother to 5 children, 2 step-children, 2 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren, was dearly loved by all. Even though her children were spread out across the country, she still made time to visit them frequently and loved being involved in all of their lives. During her visits, she enjoyed going on adventures with them including camping, hiking, fishing, biking, site-seeing, and playing with her grandchildren. She also loved many music genres, especially the blues, and was an avid reader. Carolyn selflessly gave of her time as a regular volunteer at the Kansas City Rescue Mission where she recently was appointed the clothing donation manager. She also enjoyed serving meals and assisting with the clothing distribution to the homeless.

Along with her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her son, Tayler Torres. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Celina Torres of San Francisco, CA; son, Will Torres, his wife, Anna and their children, Carter and Ellison of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter, Breezy Torres of Memphis, TN; son, Quintin Torres of Independence, MO; step-daughter, Aurora (Torres) Pecarovich, her husband, Michael and their children, Norrin and Autumn of Madera, CA; step-daughter, Courtney (Torres) Girard, her husband, Robert and their children, Cooper and Evan of Parkville, MO; husband, Bill Torres of Independence, MO; brother, Robert McGowan of Shawnee Mission, KS; brother, Richard McGowan, his wife, Susan and their children, Emily and David of Bedford, NH; and sister, Stephanie McGowan of Overland Park, KS.

Visitation will be held at Park Lawn Funeral Home at 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 12 noon with the Memorial Service immediately following at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Kansas City Rescue Mission, 1520 Cherry Street, Kansas City, MO 64108.
