Mildred L. Adkins

February 28, 1921 — January 3, 2019

Mildred L. Adkins, 97, passed away January 3, 2019.  Visitation will be 10-11AM, Saturday, January 12 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd.; graveside service to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.

Mildred was born on February 28, 1921, to Roy and Etta Uhrmacher of Chillicothe, MO. She graduated in 1940 from Chillicothe H.S. On June 6, 1940, she married Jerry Adkins and had one daughter, Janet. Mildred and Jerry were part of the “greatest generation” during WWII. She kept the faith while Jerry was a POW in Germany. After his safe return, they made Chillicothe their home until moving to the KC, MO area in 1968. Jerry pursued computer programming as his career while Mildred worked at various food establishments. They worked elections, attended various stamp clubs and meetings (Jerry’s passion), and joined the Heart of America chapter of the EX-POWs.

After Jerry’s death in March, 2001, she came to TX to live with her daughter and husband, Jerry Joe Thompson, of Richardson, TX. While living in TX, she joined a book club, Hallmark collecting club, and volunteered 5 years at Richardson Medical Center. She was a fun lady with a great sense of humor. She especially loved being with her grandchildren and great-grands.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Willie C. (Bill) Uhrmacher.

Survivors are her daughter, Janet Thompson; grandson Tony and wife Jinna Thompson of Carrollton, TX; grandson Kenny and wife Kathy Thompson of Little Elm, TX; great-grandson Jonathan Thompson of Roswell, NM; great-grandson Nicholas Thompson of Carlsbad, NM; great-granddaughter Haley Thompson of Carrollton, TX; and 2 bonus great-grandchildren Kyle & Kayla of Little Elm, TX. Jinna’s sister, Nicol Krumme, was a bonus granddaughter, too.

Visitation in Texas is at Restland Funeral Home on January 8, 2019. Visitation in Missouri is at Park Lawn Funeral Home on January 12, 2019. Internment is at Green Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.

Mildred was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who leaves a void in our lives and hearts.
