Alberta Mae Bone, age 101, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away with family by her side on September 29, 2023 at 7:10 pm. Alberta was born to Marie R. Cushman and Thomas Cushman in Galesburg, Illinois. She was the oldest child and helped raise her two sisters Susie and Charlotte and her brother Sonny. They ate from their garden and had chicken on Sundays. Alberta walked to school in all kinds of weather with the older kids if she could keep up with them. Her mother would take her and her siblings "blue berrying" to pick blueberries along the road.
After the war, Alberta worked at Butler Manufacturing as an inspector. Before moving to Kansas City, Missouri, she married Robert L. Bone in Galesburg, Illinois. In Kansas City, she learned to drive. She took up oil and China painting so she could fill up the walls in their house. Alberta enjoyed working with various mediums in her art studio at home with her artist friends. She enjoyed showing and selling her oil paintings at Unity Village and the art shows at Westport, the Plaza and Blue Ridge Mall. She also showed her China painting locally.
Alberta and her husband Robert did their own backyard landscaping. Mom had a green thumb. She had an English garden where there was a surprise of color for every season. She and her husband Robert bowled together. Alberta was a 50+ year member of the First United Methodist Church of Raytown, a 50 year member of Summit Chapter #101 OES, a member of The Grand Cross of Color and a former board member with her husband Robert for Marlborough Chapter #77 Rainbow for Girls. She enjoyed the scenic drives to Tucson, Arizona and made several trips abroad with the family.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Bone; son, Bobby Bone Jr.; daughter, Sandra K Bone-Rhomberg; brother, Rodney ("Sonny") Cushman; sisters Susie Foreman and Charlotte Swanson.
Survivors include two daughters, Cherolyn Bone-Baxter of Gladstone, Missouri, Stacie Bone of Kansas City, Missouri; three nephews, three nieces, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
A special thank you to KC Hospice. She made contributions to St Jude and in lieu of flowers donations to St Jude would be greatly appreciated.
