Barbara Jean Anderson, 69, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away September 4, 2022. Barb was born on August 20, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri. Her mother Cecelia Buchanan and father Ed Bradley took her older brother, Jim, to St. Anthony’s Home for Infants, where Ed and Cecelia had adopted Jim three years earlier, to specially select his new baby sister. Barb attended St. Agnes Elementary School in Roeland Park, and later Loretto Academy in Kansas City, graduating in 1971.
After graduation from high school, Barb moved to Washington State to attend college for a few years before returning to Kansas City to work as a bookkeeper in her father’s hardware store on Southwest Boulevard. Barb worked as a book keeper for various companies around Kansas City such as Sutherland Lumber, Smith and Grieves Printing and most recently at Metropolitan Community Colleges Bookstore at the Penn Valley Campus. While working and going to school during her early years, Barb enjoyed racing all around Kansas City in her sporty red Kermann Ghia, windows down and happily humming along to tunes on her prized collection of eight-track tapes. Among other things, she also became proficient with handling a small sailboat, outboard motor and pool cue during that time.
Barb met Dennis Anderson (DA) while in high school. They were married on August 30, 1984 and remained happily married until DA’s death in October 2016. They spent their 32 years together while living in the Westport and Brookside neighborhoods of Kansas City.
In 2005, Barb returned to college in her 50’s to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. While attending Penn Valley Community College she befriended Kayt McNabb whom she and DA adopted like a daughter. She graduated from Avila University in 2008. Following graduation, she went to work for H&R Block. After retiring in 2019, Barb enjoyed traveling to see friends and family and spending time reading her Archie Comics and countless books. She became re-acquainted with her fellow classmates from Loretto and enjoyed their monthly lunch get togethers at various restaurants.
A visitation will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 24 followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 12pm at Park Lawn Funeral Home 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
