Theresa Ellen Andrews, 68, passed away early Saturday morning, March 14, 2020. She was born Jan. 25, 1952, to Stella and Marvin Andrews who predecease her.
Theresa grew up in Kansas City and attended Wm. A. Knotts Elementary School. She graduated from Southeast High School in 1970 where she was a cheerleader, a queen candidate, and was voted Most Popular in her senior class. She was also given the Ladyship award before graduation. In 1974 she received a bachelor degree in art from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She retired from the UMKC School of Medicine as Education Team Coordinator and maintained friendships with many former students who appreciated the way in which she went above and beyond the role of academic advisor.
Theresa's kindness and generosity were boundless. She was especially focused on anything involving military veterans and animals. For many years, she and her dad spent Veterans Day and Memorial Day putting flowers and small flags on the graves of those who had served in the military. After his passing, she was accompanied by family and friends to continue her father's legacy. She loved and cared for so many dogs and cats -- her own and those of friends -- and she found joy in their company. She also worked in the Kansas City Community Garden and volunteered at their fund-raising events.
Those mourning her loss include her brother, Charlie Andrews (Marsha) and her niece Sarah Andrews, both of whom were with her when she passed away. She also leaves her nephews, Robert Andrews (fiancee Mariah) and Brad;
former sister-in-law Margaret Owensby (Darrel); other extended family and countless friends.
In Theresa's honor, please consider adopting a shelter pet or contributing to any animal shelter.
Cremation. A memorial celebration is planned for later this spring.
