Anthony "Tony" Moreno

Anthony "Tony" Moreno Sr. passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith. Born on April 17, 1937, to John Moreno and Dolores Zacarias. 

In 1955, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he trained as a heavy equipment operator, embodying the dedication and resilience that would define his life. As an entrepreneur, he owned and operated several successful businesses, including the well-known Mr. Records and Mr. Satellite. In his younger years, Tony, affectionately known as “El Lechero,” was a gifted athlete on the ball field. His powerful underhand pitch made him a formidable competitor, and he played for the Aztecas with unmatched skill. His contributions to the sport were later recognized by the Mexican American Fastpitch Softball League, honoring his role in advancing the Mexican movement in athletics. 

Later in life, Tony’s faith became his guiding force. A devoted servant of God, he dedicated himself to ministry, sharing his testimony and the word of the Lord to inspire and uplift others. 

Tony is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Dorothy Moreno who passed January 16, 2025. He was also preceeded by his daughters, Stephanie Moreno and Teresa Florez; his sons, Daniel Pennington and Michael Pennington; and his grandson, Dylan Florez. His sisters Josephine Moreno and Anna Beam and brother John Moreno, Jr. 

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Maria Coakley (Bill), Andrea Moreno (Keith), Anthony Moreno Jr. (Patti), Anita Waters (Bill), Chris Moreno (Ashley), Carlos Moreno, Melanie Perez (Steve), Sheryl Janeski (Mike), and Lisa Orndorff (Jeff). He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of strength, faith, and love. His brother David Moreno (Joanna), sisters Margaret Hyde, Juanita Columbus (Ed), and Mary Hauger. Tony’s life was a testament to perseverance, passion, and devotion. His memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace. 

Memorial Services for Tony and Dorothy will be 1:00pm Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Kansas City Church, 7700 North Church Road Kansas City, MO 64158 Visitation will be from 12noon to 1:00pm prior to the service.
