Atkins Eugene "Gene" Burns

Atkins (Gene) Burns age 82 died peacefully at home on Wednesday January 22, 2025. 

Gene was born on August 28, 1942 in Lebanon. MO to Oliver and Nancy Burns. He married his love Linda Mizer Burns. They moved to KCMO where he worked thru out his career at different locations but retired from Temple Heights Manor working in maintenance. Over 61 years of marriage, the couple had one daughter, Regina. His wife, daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren remember him as a kind, gentle, and a bit ornery husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved his family (all his girls). Gene loved to listen to blue grass music and loved to hear his wife sing. He was an active and dedicated member of Southland Baptist Church, and a longtime, dedicated, member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA).

He is preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers. 

Gene is survived by his wife Linda Burns of the home, daughter Regina Hunt (Calvin), his grandchildren Tifani Castro (Dylan), Elizabeth Jackson (Jeff), Melanie Burroughs (Jonathan) and his great grandchildren SoraLynn, StellaRe, Josie, Lydia, Nora and bonus great grandchild Kaya.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, January 27, 2025, 6 pm to 8 pm and funeral Tuesday January 28, 2025, 10 am both at Southland Baptist Church 16205 Vicie Ave Belton, MO 64012 with burial at Park Lawn Cemetery 8251 Hillcrest Rd KCMO
