Frank Eugene Barnes, 93, of Independence, MO, passed away May 22, 2021, at St. Luke’s East Hospital.
Frank was born November 20, 1927, in Port Huron City, Michigan, the son of Harry and Beatrice (Wymann) Barnes. He served active duty in the US Navy from 1945 until 1948, and reserve duty from 1952 until 1953. Frank was united in marriage to Martha Ann Price on September 28, 1951, and they were blessed with four children.
Frank’s career with Southwestern Bell spanned 33 years when he retired as an Installation and Repair Supervisor. He was a member of Raytown Masonic Lodge #391 AF & AM, serving as Worshipful Master in 1992. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Kansas City, and Ararat Shrine Temple. At Ararat, Frank served as Captain of the Patrol Unit, drove countless patients and their parents to the Shrine Hospital in St. Louis, and served as a Potentate’s Aide. He was also a member of the VFW Post 21, Blue Valley Kiwanis and Telephone Pioneers of America.
Along with his parents Harry and Beatrice, Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Martha; and brothers, Harry and George Barnes. He leaves his children, Pam Groszek (Mark), Jim Barnes (Marcie), Bill Barnes (LouAnn) and Jack Barnes; grandchildren, Mandy Barnes, Colin Barnes, Mitch Groszek and Amber Groszek; sister, DeLores Peek; nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends…Frank didn’t know a stranger.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed a Masonic service at 11:00 am, on Thursday, May 27, at the Park Lawn Chapel, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138. Burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ararat Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund.
