Proverbs 31 speaks of a virtuous woman. That was the portrait of Jeri. Jerlene was born March 31, 1947 to Cortez Boykin and Mary Field in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was one of three children.
She was united in marriage to Stephen Bate in 1987, later choosing to renew their vows on Valentine’s Day. Although having no children of their own together, Jeri embraced Stephen’s son, Matthew, as her own.
Jeri was a kind-hearted person with an infectious smile. Prayer, knowledge, and service to those less fortunate were the cornerstones of her life. She positively touched lives – mentoring, assisting, and encouraging others. Because of her caring personality, the field of nursing was her perfect calling. She served as a nurse at the VA Hospital for over 30 years.
God called Jeri to her heavenly home on February 5, 2021. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Cortez and Mary Boykin. She leaves to mourn her passing, but to forever cherish her memory, her husband, Stephen Bate; her step-son, Matthew Bate; her sisters, Hazel Boykin and Carter-Maria Isaac; a hoot of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
