Raymond Lee Beatty, 91, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
Raymond was born on June 4, 1929 in Cockrell, Missouri the only child to Leonard Lee Beatty and Eunice Ethel (Eagleson) Beatty. He began school in 1935 at Hazel Dell School where he graduated from 8th grade in 1943. He then went to Lone Jack High School, graduating in 1947.
On February 5, 1951 Raymond was drafted into the United States Army. He went to basic training in Camp Chaffee, Arkansas and was transferred to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for further training. After training, he boarded a ship to Japan and then on to Korea in the 24th Division where he remained until August of 1952. He was transferred back to the USA and eventually discharged to go home for good on November 4, 1952.
After the service, Raymond went to work for Westinghouse in Lake City making jet engines. While working at Westinghouse he met “a nice young lady” named Neoma Lorene Burris. They went on their first date on Labor Day 1954. He said “that worked out fine” and they were married on April 24, 1955. After marrying, Raymond and Neoma moved to Kansas City. On May 26, 1957 they welcomed their little pride and joy, Renee. They later made a home in Grandview before moving to Lee’s Summit.
In February of 1962, Raymond went to work for the post office as a Letter Carrier until 1992 when he retired.
Throughout his life, Raymond enjoyed spending time on the family farm where he cared for 75 head of cattle, grew a giant garden and hosted many family bonfires. He taught many children in the family how farming worked. Raymond and Neoma opened their home to family holiday gatherings every year, hosting 35-45 people. Raymond’s only rule was, when you came in the door you have to have something to eat or you can’t come in. He said it always worked and he never had to turn anyone away.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Lee Beatty and Eunice Ethel (Eagleson) Beatty. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Neoma (Burris) Beatty, daughter Renee (Beatty) Cindrich and husband Kevin, granddaughter Kelsey (Cindrich) Barber and husband Luke, great-granddaughter Brielle Renee Barber, sisters-in-law Joan (Burris) Embry and husband Wayne, Louise (Waters) Burris, Joan (Drysdale) Burris, and many nieces and nephews.
