Bernice Larry

July 8, 1923 — June 9, 2023

Kansas City, Missouri

Bernice “Granny” Larry was born on July 8, 1923, to Robert Abraham and Mammie Murphy.  She fell asleep in Jesus on June 9, 2023 at 2:55 pm at home.  She was born and raised in Kiblah, Arkansas.

Bernice married Darl Larry on May 11, 1946, and they moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1951.  She had two children: Hurlene Clay and Deroughrous Larry.  Bernice was a domestic worker most of her life but was seen more as family.  She was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1963 at Beacon Light Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Bernice was very active in her church. She was a deaconess, usher, worked in the food pantry for over 20 years, drove the school bus, church bus, and sang in the senior citizen's choir.  Christian education was very important to her and she had a passion for young people.  She never met a stranger.  She loved to cook, bake and have people over her house.  She loved to garden and continued to do so into her 90s.

She was preceded in death by her husband - Darl Larry; daughter - Hurlene Clay, grandson - Myron Clay, and all 15 of her brothers & sisters.

Bernice is survived by her son Deroughrous Larry (DeAnne); six grandchildren: Floretta Robinson, LaTaynia Westney (AT), Terri Tapp, George Clay, D'Andrae Larry (Stephanie), and Nikki Larry; eight great-grandchildren: Antoinette Robinson, Jason Robinson, Dominique Robinson, Lester Tapp, Joshua Todd, Hakim Majeed, Walker Larry, and Ava Larry; nine great-great-grandchildren: Tamiyah Tapp, Christian Robinson, Robin Earsery, John Earsery, Darius Earsery, Chloe Hardy, Jaden Todd, Nyla Navy Todd, Jade Robinson; one great-great-great-grandchild: Lalia Robinson; four very good friends: Phyllis Gentry, Phyllis Johnson, Audry Johnson, and Looney; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and others who cared greatly for her.

Granny was loved by everyone she met and will be truly missed, however, we can take solace in the fact that she is now resting and will one day soon be called to meet our Savior in the second coming. One of her favorite songs shows her faith in Him by saying “When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be. When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory.”
