In Loving Memory of Betty Jane Miller.
Betty passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of joy and kindness to all who crossed her path. Throughout her life, Betty embodied the true essence of altruism, always extending a helping hand to those in need. She possessed an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time.
Betty was born on March 30, 1949, in Newark, New Jersey to parents Edward Stanley and Elsie Rose Burnett (Scheel). She always talked about her mom’s amazing rose garden at their house and her dad’s quiet, but loving posture.
Starting at age 19, Betty worked for Eastern Airlines and began her passion for travel. With a group of friends from the airlines, they would take overnight flights to places like Acapulco, Mexico - partially to enjoy the 5-course meal experience in first class. She took advantage of this perk and traveled the world, including London, England, loved visiting the Netherlands, sharing time with family in St. Johns and even learned to ski in Switzerland.
On March 10, 1973, Betty and Glenn were married, after being introduced from a friend of a friend through the airlines. It was a simple church wedding, with a reception following in Betty’s apartment.
Central to her life's purpose was her role as a devoted parent to four remarkable children. She instilled in her children the values of kindness, empathy, generosity, and integrity. Betty consistently prioritized being there for her kids, even working at her children’s schools as a nurse’s aide to ensure she was always close. This continued through to her grandchildren, showing up to hundreds of sporting, school and other events happening.
Within her community Betty was a pillar of support and encouragement. She volunteered, dedicating her time and energy to various charitable causes, including multiple mission trips, covering anywhere from Joplin to New Orleans, plus supporting those less fortunate through Never Alone. Her unwavering commitment to service inspired others to follow in her footsteps, creating a ripple effect of kindness and goodwill that will endure for generations to come.
Betty will be remembered fondly for her warmth, grace, and boundless capacity for love. Her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched and the hearts she forever changed.
Betty leaves her husband of more than 50 years, Glenn; children Douglas Miller (Pam), Stephanie Burress (Greg), Kristen Miller (Alex) and Beckie Palmer (Sam); grandchildren Derek, Trevor, Jessie and Amber; Jacob, Devon and Ian; Mia and Caiden; and Izzy, Brookie, Maddie and Maverick, plus numerous extended family members and friends.
As we mourn the loss of Betty, let us take solace in the enduring legacy of love and kindness she leaves behind. May her memory continue to inspire acts of compassion and generosity, serving as a guiding light in our lives.
