Betty Mae (Ervin) Smith, 94, of Liberty, MO, and former longtime resident of Tarrant, Alabama, passed away March 6, 2023, at NorthCare Hospice House with family at her side.

Betty was born April 4, 1928 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of George Rollin and Matilda Jane (Posey) Ervin. Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by siblings, Charles Ervin and Lucy Ervin.

Betty worked as an Administrative Assistant at the School of Business at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, for 21 years prior to her retirement in 1999. Betty volunteered 20 years in the gift shop at the University of Alabama Hospital, Birmingham. She was a member of Five-Mile Presbyterian Church in Birmingham.

Survivors include her son, Gregory Ervin Smith of Chattanooga, TN; grandson, Richard Parker “Pete” Smith (Katrina Irvin) of Nashville, TN; granddaughter, Erin Ashley Smith of Ozark, MO; great granddaughter, Parker Kinsley Smith; as well as other family members and friends.

Visitation will begin at 4:00 pm, followed by a service celebrating Betty’s life at 4:30 pm, on Friday, March 10, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO.  Burial will be at a later date at Sexton Cemetery in Savannah, MO. A memorial service will be planned later in Birmingham.

Memorials are suggested to the Presbyterian Home for Children, 905 Gertrude Michael’s Drive, Talladega, AL 35160.
