Billy Joe Shewmaker

Billy Joe Shewmaker was born April 27, 1934, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri to Hubert and Molly Shewmaker. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bertha, son Michael, daughter Sandra, great-granddaughter Belle Thach, brother Gene, and sisters Wilma, Betty Lou, Susie, and Darlene.

 Not long after his birth, the family relocated to Pleasant Hill, Missouri, where he attended school. In 1954 he married his wife, Bertha. The couple made their home in Kansas City, Missouri. They shared life together for more than 61 years. 

 Billy became an over the road, (OTR), truck driver. He absolutely loved his job, always traveling all over the country and seeing new places. He was also a proud member of The Teamsters Union. 

 If he wasn’t going somewhere, it’s a safe bet you could find him fishing and/or listening to music.

 Billy departed this life on February 28, 2025, at Homestead of Olathe, in Olathe, Kansas. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 He is survived by his son, Mark Shewmaker of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, brothers Richard Shewmaker and Sammy Shewmaker, both of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a very special niece, Rhobbin Rosenthal, and many other relatives and friends.

 In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you give a donation to Children’s Mercy Hospital.
