Doyne Neal Blount, 86, of south Kansas City, passed away December 20, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospice House with loved ones at his side during his final days.

Doyne was born August 27, 1935, in Cushing, Oklahoma, the younger of two sons of Carlos and Esther (Townsend) Blount. Following graduation from high school in Cushing, Doyne received his Bachelor’s degree from Phillips University in Enid, OK. While studying at college, Doyne met and was later married to the love of his life, Shirley “Jeanie” Williams. They spent 56 years together until her death in 2010, and he has continued to love her every day since. Doyne served in the Oklahoma Army National Guard and US Army Reserves, receiving honorable discharge in 1962.

Doyne spent several years training filling station owners for Skelly Oil in Kansas City. He later operated his own Skelly filling station, Doyne’s Corner at 63rd Street at Rockhill Road. The operation grew to three stations and a vehicle rental business before he sold and went into the HVAC business.

Doyne was active in Scouting and an Honorary Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a longtime member, Elder, and had served on the board of Hickman Mills Community Christian Church.

For the past 50+ years, Doyne’s favorite place this side of heaven was his cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. He also had a passion for woodworking and building furniture, often giving his creations away to those he loved. Doyne was a devoted husband, dad and gramps, and will be greatly missed by all.

Along with his parents and his wife Jeanie, Doyne was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Blount Colley, and step-mother, Vola Blount. Survivors include children: Jerry Blount (Teri) and Esther Blount; grandchildren: Josh Blount (Mandy), Joe Blount (Marissa), Tracy Reed (Bo), Jamin Blount (Elise), Mandi Peterson (Jeremy), Brandon Colley (Lindsay) and Courtney Wheeldon (Gregory); 17 great grandchildren; brother, Elmo Blount (Darlene); and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
