Bonita “Bonnie” Lea (Valentine) Bryant was born at 1838 Pacific, Kansas City, Kansas, on May 25, 1931. Bonnie passed on December 27, 2020, in her home after a brief illness. She leaves behind her five children: Deborah Arnette of Plano, TX, David Bryant of Plattsburg, MO, Diane Bryant of North Kansas City, MO, Denise Shibley of Kearney, MO, and Dawn Bryant of Kansas City, MO; as well as two Sons-In-Law: Clarence Shibley and Joe Arnette. She was loved by her family and very proud of her nine grandchildren: Christopher Shibley, Bryan Shibley, Jermey Bryant, Jessica Bryant, Anna Koehn, Jonathan Arnette, Jennifer Johnson, Kimberly Mezian and Katherine “Katie” Arnette and six great grandchildren: Autumn Shibley, Drake Shibley, Taylor Johnson-Quintard, Caleb Johnson-Quintard, Genevieve Arnette and Emilia Arnette.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

She was a wonderful person, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, neighbor, volunteer, average golfer (learned not to stand too close on her swing or you could get hurt), average driver (although she would disagree).

Bonnie enjoyed family and friends, golfing, traveling, reading, gardening, volunteering, bowling and cooking. Bonnie was adventurous and enjoyed visiting family and friends, and she often told of places she would like to see and visit. She had a strong spirit of generosity and always tried to include others in family gatherings and holidays. She offered an open door and open heart and was always reaching out to help others in need.

Bonnie had many lifelong friends and was truly grateful for their friendship and time. She was a wonderful friend. Her friends became part of the family and are held in high esteem.

Bonnie started in the roofing industry at Western Roofing, learned commercial estimating and the commercial roofing business, and started Valentine Roofing, a commercial roofing company in 1985. The company was a member of Roofers Local #20 Union. Bonnie served on the Roofers Local #20 Health and Welfare Board. She was a member of the Associated Roofing Contractors of Greater Kansas City and served a term as Chairman of the Board. She was the first female estimator in the construction industry in Kansas City. She was a trailblazer for women in construction.

Bonnie was a Liberty Hospital volunteer for nine years.

She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
