She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 16, 1933 to the late Roy and Bessie Spaw. She was the third child of six children. Her brothers, Donald Spaw, Ronald Spaw, Robert Spaw, James Spaw and sister, Patti Spaw preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her nephews, Timothy Spaw and Daniel Spaw. She is survived by her sister, Carol Wallace (Raymond) of Ocala, FL.

Her eight great grandchildren brought unmeasurable joy and smiles to her days. She leaves to cherish her loving memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Shirley was a telephone operator for AT&T and an office manager for Monarch Insurance and Indian Creek Nursing Home. She retired in 2009 from her role as office manager at United Sign.

Her hobbies included gardening, reading books, traveling, decorating cakes, spending time with family, laughing, and always wearing a smile. She was most proud of being the picture lady at Ingeles Elementary and was a lifetime member of the PTA. Shirley volunteered at Wayside Waifs animal shelter and served on many committees, such as Welcome Wagon, for Ruskin Heights. Shirley was a loving and caring person, devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, always there for others first. “To know her was to love her.” She was a member of Ruskin Heights Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo. and later was a member of Christ’s Church of Perseverance in Joplin, MO.
