Stephen Phillip Butler, 46 of Blue Springs, MO, passed away on Friday December 17, 2021 at St Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the Park Lawn Funeral Home with Visitation at 12PM, with services to follow at 1PM. Stephen Phillip Butler was born in Columbia, MO on December 2, 1975 to Homer Lee Butler Jr and Betty Ann Butler.
Stephen Butler known as Bert to many attended Columbia Public Schools and was a graduate of Rock Bridge Senior High School. Throughout his childhood, he was always the loudest one in a room and always smiling and laughing. Stephen started to play football in his high school years as a starting defensive lineman. He was known for his excitement and energy on the team and would always do anything to get his teammates fire up. Stephen began his career at Dana Corporation for nine years. He also had a Landscaping business with Luther Harley called Butler & Harley’s Professional Landscaping for three years. He then went to MODOT for eighteen years where he received three high achiever awards, one noteworthy award and quickly ascended to Maintenance Superintendent. Stephen also worked Part-time as a Maintenance Associate at Walmart for five years. Stephen had a love for people. He touched so many lives throughout his life and he was loved by many. He was known to be a hard worker and always joking and smiling and had a great sense of humor. As he worked, he continued to play football with the KC Shockers. He had a real passion for football, and he imparted that passion to the youth of the next generation. He was Co-coach with Josh Sallee teaching K-6th grade on three different teams. CYFL Packers, Bengals, and the Mid MO Panthers. He also became Defensive Coordinator and then Head Coach of the Midwest Titans. He brought Joy to all the young men that he taught and trained. He had a passion and love for the game, and it showed in his leadership, hard work and enthusiasm. His legacy will live on through his two Sons Aiden and Elijah as well as all the young men whose lives he touched.
Survivors include his 2 sons Aiden Phillip Butler of Columbia, MO and Elijah Phillip Butler of Blue Springs, MO; his father Homer (Robin) Butler of Des Moines, IA; his mother Betty Ann Butler of Columbia, MO; two sisters, Sonja Butler of Columbia, MO and Danielle (Mike) Stewart of Columbia, MO; two nieces and two nephews; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers and friends.
