Oma L. Cahill

May 18, 1938 — March 23, 2022

Oma Loretta Rowden / Cahill, 83, passed away March 23, 2022.  Oma was born in Fayette, Missouri, May 18, 1938, to the parents of Georgianna and Charles Rowden, who both preceded her in death.

Oma’s mother and stepfather moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where she spent most of her childhood. She was educated in the Kansas City, Ks School District, attending Douglas Elementary School, Northeast Jr. High and graduated from Sumner High School. Oma attended one year at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Oma later married her childhood sweetheart, DeWitt Cahill, that marriage lasted 56 years until his death in 2012. From that union five (5) children were born.

During her career she was employed with Rival Canning Company, she was a volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital and Research Medical Center. She was also employed as a supervisor at Crown Center when it was first built. In 1974 Oma was employed by the KCMO School District as a para-professional in the classroom at Southeast Jr High School, and later as the attendance secretary. She also sponsored a Drill Team at Southeast Jr High. After 23 years of service, she retired from the KCMO School District due to her failing health.

She was a faithful member of St. John AME Church as the president of the Stewardess Board, acting Secretary and Treasurer, and was a member of the choir. She later joined Bethel AME Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir and of the Stewardess Board for a while.

Oma loved her family and she loved to cook (her specialty was peach & apple cobbler).

She leaves to cherish her memories her 3 sons Anthony Cahill (Wendy), Michael Cahill, Kevin Cahill (Kaye), all of Kansas City, MO; 2 daughters Allena Ward (Timothy) Overland Park, KS; DeNeen Cahill, Kansas City, MO; a brother Charles Rowden (Katherine) Kansas City, MO; a sister Linda Battle (Rev. David) St. Louis, MO; a Sister-in-Law Carol Ann Finney, Houston, TX; 1 grandson Ryan Cahill, McDonough, GA; 1 granddaughter Aaliyah Cahill, Kansas City, MO; 2 great grandsons Elijah Hunter, Indianapolis, IN, Ramilleos Cahill, W. Palm Beach, FL. Many nieces and nephews from Texas, California and Kansas City, MO. And a host of friends and relatives. She will be missed by all that loved her.
