Nancy Ann Carr

March 22, 1932 — May 12, 2021

Nancy Ann Carr, 89, passed away on May 12, 2021 with family at her side. She was born on March 22, 1932 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Mary and Harold Kent, her parents, were very proud of their daughter. She graduated from Ottumwa Heights Academy as valedictorian, in 1950.

She met and married the love of her life, Bill Carr, on June 15, 1954 at St. Mary’s Church in Ottumwa. They built their marriage and life together based on Corinthians 13:13, “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Their marriage has lasted 67 years and included many, many people in their circle of love, most importantly their 8 children, 23 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Nancy is survived by her husband, Bill, and her 8 children, Gary (Donna) of Dallas; TX, Terry (Don) of Omaha, NE; Linda of Minneapolis, MN; Mary (Roger) of Liberty, Mo; Kevin (Liz) of Burlington, IA; Dan (Leanne) of Kansas City, MO; Sheila (Chris) of Ankeny, IA; David (Amy) of Liberty, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Harold Kent, sister Sally, and brother Tom.

Nancy’s life can be best described by Proverbs 31:28-29, “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all’.” Nancy dedicated her life to her family and church. She turned a house into a home and made every holiday and birthday special. You often found Nancy in the kitchen preparing a meal for family and friends to gather around. She loved to hear the laughter and chatter of her children and grandchildren. She was a great mother and took pride in the successes of her children. Her children believe that all they are and aspire to be, they owe to their mother. She loved picnics in the park, camping on vacation, musicals, movies, and dancing.

We will miss her smiling, sparkling Irish eyes, her sense of humor, and her love. The loss to our family is beyond words but she leaves a legacy of a loving husband, sons and daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends. Our mother always told us that loss is only temporary when you believe in God.

Services will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Saturday May 15. Visitation from 9:00-11:00 AM and Mass to follow. As Nancy was devoted to her faith, she ensured that all of her children graduated from Notre Dame Catholic Schools. So, in lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Notre Dame High School in Burlington, IA (burlingtonnotredame.com)
