Charles M. Carroll

Charles Melvin Carroll, 88, a resident of the Kansas City Northland and formerly of Overland Park, KS, passed away June 14, 2020 at Liberty Hospital.

Charlie was born February 10, 1932, in Cherryville, NC, one of eight children of Jesse Lohr and Ellen Bryte (Sellers) Carroll. His parents and seven siblings preceded him in death. Charlie was united in marriage to Elaine Hartman, and they spent 64 wonderful years together until her death in 2017.

Charlie served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, including service in Germany. He continued service in the Army Reserves until 1962.

Charlie worked 42 years, not counting the years he spent helping his family run the Carroll Dairy Farm before he left Cherryville. His career with International Harvester spanned more than three decades. Following retirement, Charlie worked for several independent truck parts dealers, including Franklin Power Products and Dayton-Walters. Charlie served as President of the MoKan Club.

Survivors include his children, Stan Carroll (Diane), James Phillip Carroll (Brenda) and Elizabeth Poelma (Mark); grandchildren, Amanda Houk (Brad), Colleen Carroll (Rob Ambrose), Brandy Hermosillo (Mauricio), Shannon Hunsel (Ryan) and Josh Poelma; eight great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 9:30 am Thursday, June 18, at Glenridge Cemetery, located at B Highway at Shepherd Road, Liberty, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
