Gwyneth L. Chambers

Gwyneth passed quietly surrounded by family on December 17th, 2018 in Independence, Mo.

She was born on June 16th, 1928 to Calvin C Cox and Ida L Cox in Kansas City, Kansas, she was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area.

She had a wonderful singing voice and when she was a young girl her Mom and Dad would take her to the weekly Kansas City Cavalcade where she would sit on Cab Calloway’s knee and sing, she quickly became a crowd favorite.

In 1946 she met the love of her life David Chambers Jr, the couple wed on November 20th 1948 and they were married almost 57 years at the time of Dave’s death. They started their family in 1953 and had 3 sons Dave, Steve and Jeff.

Gwyn had numerous jobs off and on throughout her working years but the things she enjoyed most was being a Mom, Grandma and housewife and she excelled at all 3. She enjoyed oil painting and decorating her home for any and all holidays, she also had a knack for making flower arrangements. Her passion was collecting Teddy Bears, through the years she collected more than 250 bears of all shapes, sizes and colors. She had a bedroom in her apartment dedicated to her Teddy Bear collection. One of her last wishes was to get these bears into the hands of young children across the city.

She was proceeded in death by her father Calvin, mother Ida, husband David and her oldest son David C.

She is survived by her son Steve his wife Val, son Jeff his wife Gina, daughter-in-law Kathy. 6 grandchildren - Nichole Hankins, Kristi Landers (husband James), Jackie Chambers, Stephanie Wilson (husband Brad), Brittany Dresnick (husband Kevin) and Jeremy Chambers (wife Melissa) 9 great grandchildren – Daniel Dresnick, Bryan Landers, Tessa Landers, Neveah King, Oakley Jean Wilson (on the way), David Hankins (wife Angel), Caitlin Hankins, Brendan Hankins, Alana Hankins, and Elisea Hankins
2 great great grandchildren–Gavin Hankins and Waylon Moon.

Services will be held on Wednesday December 26th, 2018
Visitation at 1 PM
