Mary E. Chaney, "Plumie"
On Thursday evening, September 02, 2021, Mary E Chaney passed away at St Luke’s Hospital completing her loving journey here on earth. Mary was born on February 07, 1938 at General Hospital #2 in Kansas City, MO to Clarence and Bertha Minor. Mary attended RT Coles Vocational High School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955. While in high school, Mary studied to become a cosmetologist and participated on the swimming team. Mary met the love of her life, Harold L Chaney, Sr, in 1946 and married him on December 14, 1955. Their marriage lasted 65 years and produced seven children.
Mary worked outside the home for Carey’s Self Service Laundry, as a receiving clerk, and for Meadowbrook Country Club, assisting in the pantry and decorations. One of Mom’s greatest gifts was her devoted, sacrificial loving nature shown to her husband, children, live in mother in law Annie Mae Chaney, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, neighbors, and friends. Mom loved cooking for her family and friends regardless of whether it was Sunday dinner, a family picnic, a family reunion, holiday, or any occasion. She loved catching more fish than you with her fishing pole “Esmerelda”. She enjoyed vacation trips with her children(California), grandchildren(South Dakota), and sisters(Las Vegas and Arkansas). Mom loved life, and more than anything else she loved being by Chaney’s side.
Mary was baptized at the age of six at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church where she had a lifelong commitment to following Christ and serving others. Mary was active in Sunday School, the Awana Gospels, Women’s Missionary Union, and the church pantry. Her most notable service was forming the Horn of Plenty, an annual feed the homeless ministry project at Pleasant Green.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Harold L Chaney Sr, her parents, Clarence and Bertha Minor, her friend and mother in law Annie Mae Chaney, her sisters Juanita Cooper, Christine Hardley, Alma Jackson, and brothers William Cooper, Lloyd Cooper, Herschel Cooper, Sewall Minor, and Clarence Minor. She is survived by her seven children Harold Jr, Terry, Darren (Kimberly), NaNette, Karl (Sandy), John, and Michael (Alease), her sisters Valjean Minor and Lula Marie(William) Claiborne, her brother in law William Chaney, her sister in law Nellie Roberts, fifteen grandchildren, forty eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and a much loved host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
Visitation will be 9-11AM, with services to follow at 11AM, Saturday, September 18 at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, 2910 E. 30th St., Kansas City, Missouri; burial in Blue Ridge Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
