Christopher T. Brown, 64, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away March 22, 2025 at home, surrounded by his family. Chris was a devoted family man, a generous friend and boss, the president of Larry Brown Excavating, and the founder of his beloved Doghouse.
Chris attended the University of Missouri (for a length of time his father called “the eighties”), earning an MBA in finance. He worked as an industrial engineer for UPS and moved to St. Louis, where a five-year-old boy named Casey—who Chris played with at the neighborhood pool—introduced him to his mom. The rest was history. Chris and Mitzi married in 1992 and went on to have three more children and two grandchildren.
In 1995, Chris and Mitzi moved their growing family to Kansas City to help his parents with the family business. Chris made an immediate impact and eventually ran the company, working side-by-side with his mother, father, brother, and sister for nearly thirty years.
Chris devoted himself to his family. He spent countless hours coaching each of his kids in basketball and encouraging their love of music. Nothing made him happier than spending time with them. When one of his daughters texted him a video of his grandchildren, he showed it to absolutely everyone within shouting distance.
At 64, he had the same core group of friends he established in high school and earlier. While he could be hard to read (his friends often called him “Neutral Man” or, sarcastically, “Mr. Excitement”), his joy was contagious. He was the hub of many groups, bringing together his high school friends with his college Kappa Sig brothers, friends from Staley golf, his Kansas City Chiefs tailgate crew, and the Backyard Olympics crowd at the Doghouse.
Chris will be missed by so many, because he consistently showed up for the people in his life. He was quick to help his family and friends. His impossibly brief battle with pancreatic cancer ended his life far too soon, robbing his family and friends of years they wish they could have spent hearing his stories and listening to him sing ridiculous show tunes.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Bridget. He is survived by his wife, Mitzi; his children, Casey Dickey, Alexandra Larocca (Dominic), Grace Brown, and Olivia Brown (Max Prince); his grandchildren, Bowie Prince-Brown and Lily Larocca; and his siblings Adam Brown (Marie) and Heather Wolesky (Matt).
A celebration of life will be held at the Brown family farm on June 7, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. The farm is located at 12203 NE 120th Street in Kearney, Missouri. For more information, contact Larry Brown Excavating’s office.
