James H. Clayton

November 20, 1935 — December 6, 2022

James Harmon Clayton, 87, of the Kansas City Northland, went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2022, at his home with loved ones at his side.

Jim was born November 20, 1935, in Hannibal, MO.  He served in the US Navy Reserves. Jim was united in marriage to Florence Lucille Sutton on July 6, 1960. He was a longtime member of Teamsters’ Local 41 and retired from Churchill Trucking.  Jim was a member of Flack Memorial Church in Excelsior Springs.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Clayton, Freda Blomquist and Al Blomquist; his aunt and uncle who raised him, Virgie and Ray Ward; son, Steve Clayton; and brother, Robert Ferguson.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Florence; children, Laurie Gottman (Steve), John Clayton (Kathy), Jimmy Clayton (Tina) and Karen Clayton; daughter-in-law, Denise Clayton; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  He also leaves his sisters, Beverly (Bill) and Phyllis; sister-in-law, Joann Ferguson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a service celebrating Jim’s life at 11:30 am, on Monday, December 12, at Flack Memorial Church, Excelsior Springs, MO. Burial will follow at Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Flack Memorial Church or to City Union Mission.
