Ronald Pearson Combest
April 6,1930 to May 23, 2020
Ronald Pearson Combest of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma peacefully passed away to heaven on May 23, 2020 in the loving presence of his daughter and son-in-law at the Kansas City Hospice House at the age of 90. He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Onnie Combest, brothers Gerald and Raymond, sister Julia Sommers, and son David Combest.
He is survived by his daughter Debra Berg (Eric); four grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Rachel Berg (Monshanae, Makenzie), Laura Berg, Scotty Berg, Kevin Berg and extended family.
He was born in Laurel, Mississippi on April 6,1930. He was in the ROTC at Mississippi State University and graduated with his Bachelor of Science from the School of Business in 1952. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1954 and commissioned as a First Lieutenant. He went on to work many years for the KC Chiefs Football Club as their Secretary Treasurer and eventually ended his business career working for Jack Cooper Transport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This is where he retired and happily put down roots there. Ron was a member of Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His friendship with Tommye Smith was especially important to him and she provided much love and companionship. He truly enjoyed playing bridge with his many friends at the Fun and Games Bridge Studio along with cheering on the KC Chiefs, Sooners and the Thunder. He was known for his love for his dogs and could always be found walking them early in the morning. He enjoyed good Southern cooking like fried chicken, boiled peanuts and banana pudding. His favorite hymn was How Great Thou Art which provided him great comfort in his last days. He will always be remembered as a true gentleman, for his beautiful smile, quiet ways and courage for the way he faced the challenges at the end of his life. Ron will be dearly missed and forever loved by his family and friends.
A private celebration of his life will be held by family on June 13, 2020 as we remember our dad, PaPa, uncle and friend.
