When fully retired Dale and his wife moved to Cottonwood, Arizona for four years and enjoyed every minute of it. He returned to Smithville in late 2015.

Dale was a firm believer in taking at least one vacation a year and his travels have taken him to many destinations in and out of the country. His real passion was sailing. He loved racing his sailboat inland and on open waters. He taught sailing for William Jewell College and the Red Cross. He belonged to the yacht club at Jacomo Lake and Smithville Lake.
