Corbetta Faye McGaugh, affectionately known as Sally, was born on 8, 1935, in Oklahoma and entered eternal rest peacefully in her sleep on April 11, 2025, at her home in Lawson, Missouri. Her life was a tapestry woven with love, kindness, and unwavering faith, reflecting the beautiful essence of this sweet woman, who touched the lives of all who knew her.
Sally was the youngest of eight children in the Gaskins family, growing up throughout the Midwest, which laid the foundation for the warmth and generosity that characterized her personality. After graduating high school, she embarked on a career at a manufacturing plant where eggs were made, a fortuitous beginning that led her to meet the love of her life, Billie Joe McGaugh. The couple joyfully married on June 14, 1953, and enjoyed an extraordinary 67 years of marriage filled with love and companionship until Billie’s passing.
Sally was a devoted mother and gracious homemaker, embracing her role as a stay-at-home mom with open arms. She later returned to the workforce, retiring from K Mart as a beloved retail associate, where her sweet disposition and servant's attitude flourished. Sally's commitment to family extended beyond her immediate household; she was a loving mother to her children, Debra Lynn Veverka (Kenneth), Tina Marie Heldman (Andrew), and James Earl McGaugh (Pam), and she cherished her seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, forming lasting bonds rooted in love and faith.
Her hobbies revolved around family and church, where she passionately participated as a member of LifeBridge Church in Kansas City. She found joy in attending the JOY Club, a group fondly known as "just older youth," where she cultivated friendships and shared her belief in God. Sally's loving nature was evident in her enthusiasm for hosting gatherings, complete with delicious meals designed to make everyone feel welcome. Whether it was feeding family or friends, her motto was simple: “Get in, sit down, and eat something.” She brought light and laughter into every gathering, and her soft-serve strawberry ice cream was always a delightful treat that brought smiles to her loved ones’ faces.
Sally's life was marked by resilience, especially in her final battle against cancer. She faced her illness with grace and a steadfast spirit, reminding those around her of the strength of faith and love.
Sally is survived by her precious daughters Debra Lynn Veverka (Kenneth) and Tina Marie Heldman (Andrew), along with her son James Earl McGaugh (Pam), her seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She rejoices in heaven with those who have gone before her, including her beloved husband Billie Joe McGaugh, son Gary Ray McGaugh, infant son John McGaugh, and her parents, James and Ollie Gaskins, along with her six sisters and one brother.
A visitation to honor Sally will be held at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty, Missouri on April 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at Bible Baptist Church in Cameron, Missouri on April 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
As we gather to remember this beautiful soul, we celebrate her spirit filled with love, faith, and kindness—a true testament to a life well-lived. Sally will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
