Sue E. Craig

October 3, 1938 — December 6, 2019

Sue Ella Craig, age 81, passed away Friday, December 6, 2019.  She was born October 3, 1938 to Ed and Clada Thies in Springfield, MO.  She was the second of four sisters. With her older sister, Loretta, who preceded her in death, she often helped take care of her two younger sisters, Clada and Kay.  She was a natural caregiver from an early age.

Sue met Gary Wohlgemuth in Springfield, Missouri, while he was attending Bible College and they were married in 1955.  They had three children together, Brent, Brenda, and Darla, before Gary passed in 1972. After Gary’s passing, Sue became the rock of the family. She was always there for her family to help solve problems with her invaluable wisdom and to provide emotional support, always knowing just what to say to make her loved ones feel better.

On October 7, 1976, Sue married Jim Craig of Raytown, Missouri.  They joined their families, raising five children together, with the addition of Lisa and Stephen.  They shared 43 years of joy and love.

Sue began her career in banking as a part-time teller at Blue Ridge Bank and Trust Company in 1970.  She worked her way up in the company and retired as a Senior Vice President after 36 years. In her free time, Sue enjoyed many activities.  She loved swimming, tennis, bowling and sewing. Sue was a talented seamstress and often made outfits for her grandchildren. This was a hobby she had in common with her sister, Loretta, and it gave them cherished time together. Sue also enjoyed volunteering her time to sew dolls for Hope House, along with her sister and friends.

Sue is survived by her husband, 3 children, 2 stepchildren, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many people that cared deeply for her.  Sue had the biggest heart and would help anyone who needed it. She made sure people were taken care of before herself. She taught her children to love with all of their heart, to think of other people, and to show respect to everyone, as well as how to be strong and solve any problem or situation life might throw at you.  Sue was the strongest, most amazing woman her family has ever known.
