Beatrice L. Davis

July 26, 1934 — October 9, 2021

It is with great sadness the family of Beatrice Louise (Johnston) Davis of Kansas City, Missouri, announce her passing on October 9, 2021, at age 87. Bea was born July 26, 1934, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Donald and Nell (Frederick) Johnston.

Bea graduated with an associate degree from Highland Community College, Highland, Kansas. She retired after many years of service as the Registrar of Highland Community College. She was a long-time member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Liberty, Missouri. After retirement, Bea volunteered at Children’s Mercy Hospital, serving in the baby ward, and later served as docent at St. Luke’s North Hospital. Her love of service continued by knitting hats for cancer patients for several years.

What Bea’s most recent friends remember about her is her love of music and impromptu dance sessions. At age 80, she even sang the national anthem at a local charity softball game.

Bea is preceded in death by her husband Wayne Davis, sister Ramona Terry and brother Donald Johnston, Jr. She is survived by her two children Lin Gartner of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Debra (Randy) Hallauer of Parkville, Missouri, her granddaughter Meagan Devlin, and her great-granddaughters Sydney and Makayla.

The family has chosen to have private services, and Bea will be interred at the National Cemetery at Leavenworth, Kansas, alongside her husband of 58 years.

The family extends a special heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers of The Gardens at Barry Road for their exceptional care and support for many years. They would also like to thank the Ascend Hospice team that provided comfort care during Bea’s final days.
