Dennis "Abby" Arthur Abernathy

Dennis Arthur "Abby" Abernathy, 81, passed away on June 16, 2023, at home surrounded by family. He was born January 6, 1942, in Table Grove, Illinois to Daune and Violet Abernathy. After graduating high school, Abby moved to Kansas City, Missouri to start his 38-year career at the Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant. While being employed at the Ford, he also joined the United States Army where he held many posts and positions. In 2000, Abby joined the Masonic Lodge. During his 23 years membership, he excelled at roles including the high honor of Worshipful Master, District Deputy Grand Master, and Honorary Past Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar for the State of Missouri. Abby enjoyed working on cars, bowling on many leagues, and traveling. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In 1993, Abby married the love of his life, Deborah Jo Abernathy. He is survived by his wife and children, Darel Abernathy, Damon and Maria Abernathy, Lori and Michael Gillespie, Amanda and David Weinmann, Anna Northcutt, Samy Northcutt,11 grandchildren, one great grandson, two brothers, Roger and Georgia Abernathy (Bushnell, Illinois) and Lester Abernathy Table Grove, Illinois), and three sisters, Sharon and Joe Ginger (Canton, Illinois), Edith and Mark Benedetto (Lewistown, Illinois), and Danna Kay Holder (Macomb, Illinois). He also had many bonus children and grandchildren. Abby was preceded in death by, his parents, his son, Daniel Abernathy, his sister, Alice Arnold. 

Visitation will begin 4:00 pm, followed by Masonic and York Rite services at 5:00 pm (with military honors following) on Wednesday, June 21, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1640 North State Route 291, Liberty, MO.
