Dennis E. Jackson was born on April 13, 1945 to Zula Jackson-Ivory and Larson Hall in Texarkana, TX. He was very young when he and his siblings relocated to Kansas City, MO with his mother, Zula Ivory in 1945.
Dennis met and married Beverly Wilson and they celebrated the births and rearing of Denise Jackson-Reed, Raymond Jackson, Derrick Jackson and Dennis Jackson. Later their marriage was dissolved.
He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and later received his honorable discharge from the United States Army on October 10, 1971. Dennis went on to receive his high school diploma (GED) on May 1, 1975. Throughout his life he was employed by several companies, The City of Kansas City, MO, United States Post Office, PIE Trucking and CF Trucking where he retired in 2003 after 28 years as a truck driver. He enjoyed driving trucks and would also share his over the road truck drivers stories and life lessons.
He enjoyed listening to jazz music, if you were riding with him that was the only music you were going to here. One of his favorite artist was Sade'. Dennis was an excellent cook and could tell you exactly what you needed to prepare your meals. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother Clester. The Over the Hill Gang was a group of his friends and his brother Clester that would meet for breakfast once a month. He had a great time eating and sharing there stories at Niece's Restaurant on 63rd Street. It was very rare for him to miss hanging out with the Over the Hill Gang. We all enjoyed those morning breakfasts with them.
Dennis met and married Rosie Awbrey on October 1994, they were married for 29 years. He loved his family and he was a devoted and loving husband to his wife and to his children.
He was very knowledgeable of the bible and loved enjoyed sharing and talking about the scriptures with others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Raymond K. Jackson, brothers, Printic Britt, Clester Ivory, James Bush and sister, Zora Scott.
Dennis departed this life on Monday, June 12, 2023.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his wife, Rosie Jackson of 29 years; his sister, Faye Grier; his daughter, Denise (Walter) Reed; sons: Derrick Jackson, Dennis E. Jackson; step-children: Reginal (Robin) Murphy, Debra Awbrey; grandchildren: Ryann Awbrey, Andr'e Singleton, Larry Jackson, Jeron Jackson, Jasha Reed, Denish'a, Ryan, Taylor Jackson, Jade Williams, Isaiah and Elijah Jackson, and Lonnie Reed; as well as seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be 10AM, Thursday, June 22 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri; inurnment in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
