Dennis "Pete" Torrey

Dennis William "Pete" Torrey, 76, passed away January 25, 2024.  Dennis was born April 8, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to Daniel Torrey and Wanda (Skaggs) Torrey.  He graduated from Northeast High School in 1965.  He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran.  Pete attended Central Missouri State University and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology.  He was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity.  On May 3, 1975, Pete married Phyllis Hehmeyer.  He was employed for 32 years by the City of Kansas City, Kansas as an Inspector in the Engineering Department.

Pete loved to travel with his wife, road trips (especially to the beach), casinos and buffets.  The thing he love the most in life was being a Dad to his son Jason.  He also loved his dogs.

Pete was preceded in death by his son Jason Torrey in 2008, and his parents.  Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Torrey; sister-in-law Linda Shields and her husband Greg; brother-in-law John Hehmeyer and his wife Diane; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Avenue of Life in Kansas City, Kansas, Humane Society of Greater Kansas City or to Chain of Hope.

Visitation will be 9AM, with services to follow at 10:30AM, Tuesday, January 30 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri, with the Rev. David Howlett officiating; burial in Green Lawn Cemetery.
