If Tears could build a stairway
If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I would walk right up to heaven and bring you back again. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say "Goodbye." You were gone before I knew it, and only God Knows why. My heart still aches with sadness, and secret tears still flows. What it meant to love you - No one can ever know. But now I know you want me to morn for you no more; To remember all the happy times life still has so much in store. Since you'll never be forgotten, I pledge to you today. A hollowed place within my heart is where you'll always stay.
We are gathered here today to commemorate the life of Derrick Holland. Born to Barbara Holland and James Williams on the evening of September 18, 1967 in Kansas City, Missouri. Derrick Holland left this earthy life at the age of 57, on September 3rd, 2024, though a great loss to those who know him, we know he is at peace with our heavenly Father.
Derrick Holland grew up in the Kansas City, Missouri metropolitan area. A member of the graduating class of 1986 at Northeast High School. Shortly after graduation, he served in the United States Navy. Honoring his country and family through his lifelong commitment to protect and serve them dutifully.
Many know that Derrick had a fierce dedication in his nature of loving his family and friends. His generosity could not be overlooked or denied. His positivity and air of resiliency could be sensed through the smile on his face, which he wore regularly. That smile remained consistant when he was in the company of his beloved children, grandchildren, siblings and many other loved ones. His passion for life is seen through his deep enjoyment for dancing, playing pool, sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, and spending time barbecuing on warm summer days.
Derrick Holland is preceded in death by his mother and father. His eight siblings, Sharon Ford, Darlene, Stanley and Clifford Holland. Cindy, Lindy, Jimmy and Dwight Williams. He is survived by his wife Tochia Holland, his two Children, Kaschie and Darius Holland, as well as his five grandchildren, Kordai and Kingston Paul, and Payton, Adam and Logan Holland.
His surviving family members will always remember him as a man who was kind, gentle, sow to anger, and deeply invested in seeing each one of them succeed in their personal endeavors. Though he is no longer physically with us, we know that Derrick Holland will never stray from our hears and is forever cemented in our memory.
