Dewey, Kyung Sook

July 25, 1929 — August 21, 2021

Kyung Sook Dewey was a deeply loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wife. She sadly departed this life on August 21, 2021 at the age of 92.

Kyung Sook was born in Seoul, South Korea on July 25, 1929. After completing her education, she worked in a factory. She and her family experience the disruption of the Korean war fleeing for their lives into the cold winter fields and forest seeking shelter from the farmers. It was after the initial years of the war that she met her late husband, Ralph Delmar Dewey who was serving in the United States Army. The two married on August 16, 1955. Kyung gave birth to her first child, Geneva J. Baker in Seoul Korea, before setting off to the United States of America with Ralph and beginning her permanent residence in this country. They would go on to have five more children together, Lee, Mary Jo, Thomas, Joann and Janet. Later, she would become a United States Citizen.

Kyung Sook was a brave young mother faced with the challenges of raising six children in a country that was not her native. So very bright and strong, she adapted to a new language and new foods to provide a warm loving home for her family. She taught herself American cuisine, and soon mastered the foods that she prepared. She showed her love through having family dinners and thanksgiving. A skilled seamstress, Kyung would design and sew lovely and fashionable clothing for her four daughters, making her own patterns out of newspaper and brown paper bags.

Kyung's life was deeply and lovingly devoted to her family. Kyung, was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Dewey, her son Delmar Lee Dewey and daughter Geneva J. Baker, granddaughter Dawn Chastity Baker and son-n-law Gary Stevens. She will be immensely missed by her family, Terry D. Baker and Bryan P. Baker, Mary Geier, and family, husband Joseph, son Daniel, and daughter Alexis and great granddaughter Isabella; Thomas Dewey and family, wife Victoria Dewey, Amanda Dewey, Tyler Dewey and great granddaughters Hayleigh and Addison, great grandson Landon; Joann Dewey, Rachel Stevens, and Marisa Stevens; Janet Lewis, Russ Lewis and Mel Clark.

Kyung Sook will be honored with a visitation at 9AM, and services to follow at 10AM, Friday, September 3 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
