Alberta Jo Dickerson, age 98, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on August 26, 2022 while in the care of Kingswood Senior Living Community.
Jo was born on May 23,1924 in Sugar Creek, Missouri to parents, Joseph and Mora (McBride) Miller. She and her siblings were raised in Hamilton, Missouri.
Following graduation from high school, Jo became a “Rosie the Riveter” from 1943 - 1944. She worked at the Fairfax Airplane Plant in Kansas City, Kansas. The plant built B-25 bombers.
Jo was joined in marriage to Harold Malcolm Dickerson on November 25, 1944. They were married 59 years until Harold’s passing. Following the war, Jo and Harold lived and raised their children, Larry, Vickie, and Kenton, in Kansas City, Missouri. Her family and her church were central to her life.
Jo kept an immaculate home, was an excellent cook, and enjoyed hosting lovely holiday dinners. She was an excellent seamstress able to make sports jackets for her sons and outfits for her daughter and granddaughters. Jo loved clothes and fashion. She was always beautiful and stylish.
Jo was actively supportive of the children’s activities and educations. She served as Campfire Girls leader and a Cub Scout mother. Jo had a Tennessee Walking horse and enjoyed trail riding.
She was dedicated to her church. She served as a Sunday School teacher for 60 years. She was a Deacon at Holmeswood Baptist Church.
Jo had a long and very successful career at Luzier Cosmetics. She was promoted to Supervisor of the Purchasing Department in 1970.
Jo will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her greatest joy was serving the Lord, her family, and friends. She was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Harold Dickerson; brother, Glen Miller; sister, Dorothy Clauson; and brother, Earl Miller.
She is survived by: children: son, Larry (Lin) Dickerson of Jefferson City; daughter, Vickie Dickerson of Lawrence, Kansas; and son, Kenton (Pat) Dickerson of Ridgeway, Missouri; grandchildren: Jen Yeager, Russell Dickerson, Emily (Johnathan) Barnes; and Amy (Aaron) Ousdahl; great grandchildren: Wyatt Yeager; Michael and Jett Dickerson; Molly and Mason Barnes; and Audrey Ousdahl; siblings: sister, Alma Frazier and brother, Lee (Shirley) Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 10AM, with services to follow at 11AM, Tuesday, September 6 at Holmeswood Baptist Church, 9700 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, Missouri; burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Holmeswood Baptist Church, 9700 Holmes, KCMO 64131.
