Dolphus “Tommy” Thomas, Jr. was born December 15, 1933, in Minden, Louisiana to parents, the late Adolphus [Buddy] Thomas and Syble Houston Thomas. He was Baptized and Confirmed at Mount Zion CME Temple in Minden, Louisiana. He was educated at Webster High School, 1953, Minden, Louisiana.
Dolphus served in the United States Marine Corps and received the National Defense Service Medal in 1955. Tommy was married to the love of his life, the late Gladys Louise Thompson for 54 years. To this union, no children were born but together they lovingly raised her son Jeffrey. Tommy loved Louise and Jeffrey and no sacrifice was too great.
Tommy had various jobs, but his dream job was working as a Bus Driver for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority. He received many Distinguished Driver Awards before he retired. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and bowling. Tommy and Louise were both avid bowlers in a Premier Bowling League in Raytown for many years. Both received a lot of trophies for bowling.
Tommy departed this life on Thursday, August 31, 2023. Tommy leaves to cherish his memories: daughter Ruby Lynn [Freeman], son Jeffrey [Norma] Thompson, 4 grandchildren; Nikki, Karen, Janet, Jeffrey Jr, 4 great grandchildren, cousins Dorothy and Roderick Gilbert, niece Christine [Coleman] Ellis, nephew George [Bettie Jean] Johnson, ex-daughter-in-law, Pennie [Darryl] Washington, relatives, and friends.
A Veterans Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Seasons Rehab and Healthcare Center, 15600 Woods Chapel Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64139. Private burial in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri.
