Dorothy Lorraine Woolery Anderson-Conn, 96, longtime resident of Lake Lotawana, passed away November 24, 2023. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am, followed by a service celebrating Dorothy’s life at 12 noon, on Friday, December 1, at Lake Lotawana Community United Methodist Church, 28901 NE Colbern Road, Lake Lotawana, MO. Private burial will be at Tuscumbia Cemetery, Tuscumbia, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Ararat Shrine Needle Guild, 5100 Ararat Drive, Kansas City, MO 64129.
Dorothy was born July 18, 1927, in Jefferson City, MO, one of three children of Elvin and Ollie (Crismon) Woolery. Along with her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Anderson; son, Don Crismon Anderson; second husband, Richard “Dick” Conn, Sr.; and brothers, Harold and Carroll Woolery.
Dorothy received her Bachelor of Science degree from Ottawa University and Master’s degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Her career as a nationally known hairstylist, cosmetologist, educator and business owner in those fields spanned five-plus decades.
She owned Dorothy’s Styling Salon in Brookside for 25 years and owned Woolery Cosmetic Company. As an internationally certified trichologist, she operated Woolery Trichology Center in Raytown. She was a member of the International Trichology Association.
Dorothy taught her trades at the Herndon Vo-tech Center in Raytown for 18 years and later was Cosmetology and Educational Coordinator for Missouri Western State College. She performed teacher training nationwide.
Dorothy was author of Corrective Makeup. She was also an honored member of Hair America and its Division of National Hairdressers’ Association. She was an active member of Lake Lotawana Community United Methodist Church and the Ararat Shrine Needle Guild.
Survivors include two children, Rick Crismon Anderson and Dr. Linda Crismon Anderson (husband, Jerry Gailey); and grandson, Corben Gailey.
