Marie A. Doss

Marie A. Doss, 87, passed February 6, 2020. Visitation 1PM, service 2PM, Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, MO 64138. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Marie Adele Doss was born February 5, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri to Edward M. and Leila Adele (Benning) Jacobs. An only child, she possessed a vivid imagination and enjoyed playing with her cousins who lived down the street. Born to her parents later in their lives, her father ensured she was well prepared for life, taking her to the bank and teaching her to drive at an early age. He also passed on his creativity to Marie, installing in her a love of gardening and an appreciation for art. She taught herself to draw, paint, cook, sew, and decorate. As a family, Marie and her mom and dad enjoyed travelling together on vacations. 

Marie had four children with her first husband, Paul Richard Casterline, and two children with her second husband, John Robert Doss, with whom she celebrated her fifty-seventh wedding anniversary on August 4, 2019. In addition to raising six children, she had a variety of interesting jobs. She and John enjoyed traveling, playing marbles, and visiting friends. Marie grew flowers and John grew vegetables. She canned the bounty from their vegetable gardens. She loved to read Tom Clancy and faithfully read the Kansas City Star every day. She took pride in her home and yard. She loved to shop and kept up to date with fashion. She loved Christmas, including decorating and shopping. She had a sense of humor and a quick wit. She was a survivor and, in spite of many hardships, she persevered in life. She took great joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and her legacy lives on in them. 

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law Don Cochrane, and her daughter, Tammy Doss Anderson. She is survived by her husband, John, her daughter Ann Michelle Casterline Steelman, her son Richard Bradley Casterline, her daughter Melinda Marie Casterline Harms and son-in-law Richie Harms, her daughter Lori Sue Casterline Cochrane, and her son John Wesley Benning Doss and daughter-in-law Kathy Doss. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren, with three additional great-grandchildren on the way. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all of her family.
