Karen Kay Douglas

Karen Kay Douglas, 72, of Kansas City, MO passed away on January 28, 2021 after a 7 year battle with lung cancer. Visitation will be from 12 - 1 pm on Wednesday, February 3 at Park Lawn Funeral Home on 83rd and Hillcrest in Kansas City. A funeral service will follow at 1 pm. A private graveside and burial will take place at Park Lawn Funeral Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on Facebook Live through Christine De la Torre and Karen Douglas’ Facebook.

Karen was born on August 24, 1948 to Robert and Lucille (Kirk) Fullman. She married Gary Douglas on November 15, 1975. She has one daughter, Christine (Douglas) De la Torre and her son, Stephen Douglas, who passed in infancy. She graduated from Wichita South High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology from Wichita State and University of Kansas. She worked as a Medical Technologist in the lab at Trinity Lutheran Hospital, followed by Upsher Lab and then spent the majority of her career in the lab at Children’s Mercy Hospital. She enjoyed traveling and going on family vacations. She liked to read and research topics relating to the medical field and Revelations/end times. She took pride in growing and maintaining her flowers and garden. She would spend many hours in her garden weeding, planting and watering. She had many pets throughout the years and loved animals. Her love for horses was passed down to her daughter, with whom she attended many horse shows and eventually became a horse owner. She enjoyed visiting with others and listening to their stories. Karen was a born-again Christian and enjoyed growing her faith.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dennis Fullman and her son, Stephen Douglas. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her brother, John Fullman, her husband, Gary Douglas, her daughter, Christine De la Torre (Julio De la Torre) and two grandchildren, Owen and Carolina De la Torre. And many other family and friends.
