Dr. Jeanne Marie Seberg Johnson

Dr. Jeanne Marie Seberg Johnson of Liberty died on July 2, 2024, at home with family by her side.

Jeanne was born April 4, 1934 in Chicago, Ill., the only child of Roy and Helen (Anderson) Seberg. She married David Busch Johnson on March 17, 1956 and together they raised three sons, Andy (Liz), Mark (Karen), and Pete (Vickie). First among her many blessings were her grandchildren Samuel, Leah (Jay), Caleb, Chloe, Elizabeth, and Max, and her great-granddaughter Claire. Jeanne was preceded in death by her grandson Samuel.

After the early death of her father, Jeanne was raised by her mother, aunts, and grandmother in Chicago. She attended Wheaton College III.) where she met Dave.

She completed her nursing degree in the newly formed baccalaureate program at the University of Illinois (1956). After moving to Liberty in 1970 for Dave's job at William Jewell College, Jeanne was asked to help Jewell's fledgling nursing program. She joined the nursing faculty in 1972 and completed a master's degree in education from UMKC (1975), and doctoral degree in education from the University of Kansas (1984). She taught at Jewell for 24 years and was the chair of the department for 12 years until her retirement in 1996.

Jeanne was active in the social and religious life of William Jewell College. The family attended 2'd Baptist in Liberty for many years. For nearly 40 years, Dave and Jeanne have been members of the Community Covenant Church of Kearney. Jeanne continued teaching after her retirement from Jewell, leading a weekly women's Bible study until 2019.

Jeanne was a loving, generous and caring woman through her final days. She will be missed.

Jeanne will be interred at Glenridge cemetery in a private ceremony. A public celebration of life will be held at the Community Covenant Church in Kearney, MO on Saturday, July 20 at 11:00 am. Lunch at the church will follow at noon.

The family extends an enormous debt of gratitude to the Right At Home staff for their kind and professional care in Jeanne's last days.
