DR. MARTHA SUSANA SALAS
Dr. Martha Susana Salas, 57, of the Kansas City Northland, passed peacefully into her heavenly home on March 29, 2024, at NorthCare Hospice House with family at her side.
Martha was born February 16, 1967, in Rosales, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was united in marriage to Melesio “Mele” Salas on July 30, 1988.
Martha truly lived the American dream. Coming to the States in 1986, she set out to live a life that would make an everlasting impact. Teaching has always been Martha’s passion. Whether it was teaching her children life lessons, or students in a class, Martha has always given her all to teach. Martha’s educational journey began in 2000. With Spanish as her first language, her first classes were to learn English. She attended Penn Valley Community College where she not only mastered the English language but also earned her first Associates degree. In 2008, Martha was attending school to become a teacher while working full time. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 2010. That same year, Martha’s dream came into fruition. She was officially a teacher! In 2011, Martha moved from FLA to Lincoln High School where she began to teach all levels of Spanish. In 2017, Martha was able to achieve yet another goal. She received her Masters of Science in Education-Curriculum and Instruction. Her greatest achievement, however, was when she walked across the graduating stage to receive her doctorate in 2019 in Christian Counseling. Right before her diagnosis, Martha was in the process of starting her practicum to become a school counselor. Unfortunately, she had to put a pause on this dream to walk the journey of cancer. She taught at Lincoln Middle School until four weeks prior to her death.
Martha leaves her husband of 35 years, Mele; children, Priscilla Salas, Abigail Jerls (Kevin), Isaac Salas, and Daniel Salas; grandchildren, Rylei, Ilianna, Judah, Ezra, and Asa; her mother, Josefina Estrada; siblings, Matilde Linares, Guadalupe Gallardo, Nicolas Linares, Francisco Linares, Ignacio Linares, and Gerardo Castro; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Arturo Linares.
