Ellen M. Durbin

Mrs. Ellen Marie Durbin, 78, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2022 at the Kansas City Hospice House. She was born in Kansas City at St. Mary’s Hospital. Following her graduation from Central High School in 1961, she worked at B.M.A. Later, she worked at Travelers Insurance Company for 32 years before retiring.

In retirement, she volunteered at the Cancer Action Unit at Bader Memorial Christian Church, attended Four Seasons and CWF at Raytown Christian Church, enjoyed three cruises and worked over 10,000 volunteer hours at St. Joseph Hospital. She was a member of the Sarah Lewis Boone Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Country Club Christian Church.

Ellen was preceded in death by her father Bert Grider in 1965, her stepfather Asa Clayton in 1982, her mother Catherine Grider Clayton in 1998 and a brother. Survivors include her son Mark Durbin of Kansas City and a sister, Mrs. Marilyn Ackerly of El Cajon, CA.

Funeral services will be at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., on Monday, November 21 at 1PM, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
