Elizabeth Jane (Liz) Brown, 69, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away May 26, 2024. She died peacefully after struggling with extended illnesses and being under hospice care for the last several months of her life.

Liz was born October 27, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri to Raymond and Rose Marie Brown. She was blessed to receive a strong Catholic education foundation – first at St. Louis Elementary School and then at Bishop Hogan High School. She later graduated from UMKC with a BA degree in Sociology. Liz was a gifted student with a strong thirst for knowledge.

The early years of her work career were varied and eclectic. She was a social worker for the State of Missouri - a clown for a pizza parlor – and the first female zookeeper at the Kansas City Zoo. Later she spent 13 years in the architecture and engineering fields with WL Cassell and Associates which she felt prepared her for her calling as a Feng Shui consultant. In 1996 Liz established A Hand In Healing a comprehensive Feng Shui practice. She offered “inspired guidance for great change” through presentations, consultations, space clearings, workshops and self-study workbooks. She was recognized as an excellent speaker, teacher and writer.

Liz served on the national board of directors of the International Feng Shui Guild and was the founding director of the Kansas City, Missouri chapter. She wrote a monthly column for Kansas City Wellness magazine and occasionally appeared as a guest on KKFI radio. In addition to her feng shui practice, Liz also served as Assistant to the Ministers at Unity Temple on the Plaza and was co-founder of Open Circle Media & Marketing. She was also a skilled massage therapist.

Cooking was an important part of Liz’s life and she had a great appreciation for unique and creative dishes. She loved spices and even in her last days she kept a basket of spices near her bed to enhance the flavor of every meal. Liz was passionate about people and loved her friends dearly. She also loved Kansas City and closely followed local business and politics as well as the Royals and Chiefs. She was a cat lover.

She was preceded in death by her dear parents Raymond Eugene Brown and Rose Marie (Martin) Brown and her brother Michael Brown. She is survived by her brother Tony (Lisa) Brown, and many loving family members.

Cremation services were provided by Park Lawn Funeral Homes and her ashes will later be placed near her parents’ graves in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.

A memorial service will be held at Unity Temple on the Plaza, Kansas City, Missouri on June 29 th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Olathe, Unity Temple on the Plaza or a charity of your choice.
