Julia Joan Ellis

September 11, 1933 — September 18, 2021

Julia Joan Ellis, 88, died of a Covid variant September 18, 2021 at KU Medical Center. She was born September 11, 1933 at her granddaddy’s home in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Richard (Bumps) and Julia (Smith) Barnes.

Julia graduated from Salina High School, class of 1951. Following graduation, Julia entered the work force. Along the way she married Clyde Ellis in 1959 with whom she spent 52 years prior to his passing. After various employments, she and her husband purchased Seeburg Muffler in North Kansas City, MO. In addition to Seeburg, they co-owned Car X and then later Lakeside Speedway. After these two ownerships were sold, Julia continued to be the owner and operator of Seeburg Muffler.

While gainfully employed throughout her adult life, Julia was an active PTA member serving as president at Winnwood Elementary, a den mother for her son, David, and a Girl Scout leader for her daughters, Debe, Tammy and Susan. In addition to these activities, she was a member of American Business Women’s Association and was elected as Woman of the Year in 1984. She was also an active member of Central Auto Racing Boosters, serving as Historian and Parliamentarian, and because of all of her hard work and dedication she was inducted into the CARB Hall of Fame. She also was on a bowling team at NKC Pro Bowl.

She loved to travel, loved animals and most of all she loved her family and a special group of friends that she called her racing family, among many other friends outside of racing. She was generous and kind, willing to help anyone in need.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Debe Ellis-Loos; her grandson, Rio Jauregui-Ellis; and her husband Clyde Ellis. Julia leaves behind her sister, Diane Risher (Greg); her son David McMaster (Marisa) and her bonus son Terry Loos; her daughters Tammy Ellis and Susan Bell (Roger) and bonus daughter Debbie Loyd (Randy); grandchildren Joe Loyd (Caryn), Shelby McMaster, Desirae Jauregui (Paul Rynard), Marcus Bell, Lucas Bell and Matthew Bell and great-grandchildren Evelyn Shannon McMaster, Estella McMaster, Lyric McMaster and soon to be born Winter Jauregui-Rynard.
