Susan Kay Elsberry

July 22, 1953 — August 10, 2022

Susan Kay Elsberry, age 69, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on August 10, 2022, after a courageous and determined battle with cancer. Diagnosed in August 2021, Susie committed to fighting her battle on her terms while living life to the fullest extent possible. Susie was born on July 22, 1953, to George and Bernadine Suter in Lexington, Missouri. As a child, Susie’s family moved to Moberly, Missouri, where she met the love of her life, Randall Elsberry. After graduating from Moberly High (Moberly, MO), they were married on December 19, 1970. They had two daughters, Lori and Tracey.

Susie worked in health care in Liberty, Missouri, for 30 years, starting with Dr. John Bean, and retiring at Liberty Orthopedics in 2013. In addition to spending time with her family and friends, Susie enjoyed traveling with Randy, riding their Harley, crafting, and finding antiques at garage sales.

Everyone who met Susie fell in love with her almost immediately. Part of her soul and being meant helping everyone she possibly could. If she saw a stranded motorist, she wanted Randy to pull over and see what they could do to help. She donated to multiple causes, bought countless rolls of wrapping paper for children’s fundraisers, and never met someone she didn’t want to reach out to and help. From aging parents and in-laws to caring for family members and loved ones after surgeries, you could always find Susie where there was a great need. She and Randy made frequent trips to Florida to see their grandchildren and daughter. Susie rarely saw the beach during her trips because she would rather spend time with them than relax near the water.

Susie was preceded in death by her daughter, Tracey, her parents, and her parents-in-law Bob and Helen Elsberry. She is survived by her husband Randy of the home; daughter Lori Elsberry Fitzgerald of Panama City Beach, Florida; grandson, John Michael Fitzgerald and granddaughter Olivia Elyse Fitzgerald, both of Panama City Beach, Florida; sisters Cynthia Suter Crayne of Moberly, Missouri and Nancy Franks of Columbia, Missouri, brother George Suter III of Columbia, Missouri, brother-in-law Dale Elsberry of Columbia, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends, including special lifelong friends Kenny and Judy Rains of Lenexa, Kansas, and K.R. and Debbie Dunwoody, Kansas City.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, followed by a celebration of Susie's life at 3:00 pm, on Sunday, August 14, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, Missouri. Susan will be laid to rest with her daughter Tracey in a private ceremony on Monday, August 15, at Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty, Missouri.

Instead of flowers, Susie expressed the hope that we might engage in anonymous random acts of kindness, and maybe even think of her.
