Elsie Charlene Reed, 79, of Warrensburg, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1640 N. 291 Hwy, Liberty, MO 64068. A visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty, Missouri. Memorials and contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Charlene was born on October 3, 1944 in Porterville, California to Henry Alonzo and Lois Valgene (Morgan) Hancock. She was the oldest of 14 children. As a child growing up in California, she became friends with Ricky Nelson as both of their families vacationed at the same beach. Soon after, her parents moved the family to Clinton, Arkansas. Charlene attended school until 7th grade when she had to leave so that she could help support and raise her brothers and sisters. In 1966, she met Orval Murry and the two of them moved to Missouri where they raised their two sons, David and Doug. Orval passed away in 1996. She later met Donald Reed and the two were married on August 10, 1997 and remained together until his passing in 2015.
Charlene enjoyed making crafts, sewing and making clothes, playing games on the computer, going to garage sales and auctions, coloring, but most of all her loving family. In her later years, she enjoyed her time with her great grandchildren, Harley Holcomb, Gregory Raines, and Ryelan Raines.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; her 2 husbands; 12 siblings; and great grandson Christian Wine. She is survived by her sons David Murry and Doug Murry; 6 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and sisters Patty and Lorreta.
