Florence Carol Galyean

August 27, 1944 — March 22, 2025

Higginsville, Missouri

Florence Carol Galyean, affectionately known as Bonnie, made her final journey to Heaven on March 22, 2025, at her home in Higginsville, Missouri, with Her husband Don, daughter Carolyn, and several grandchildren by her side. Exactly how Bonnie would’ve wanted it.

Born on August 27, 1944, in Washington, DC, to Junior and Barbara Turner, Bonnie was the second of 7 siblings in a military family. Her childhood was full of moves and new beginnings, eventually landing the family in Kansas City, where she graduated from North Kansas City High School. Those early experiences sparked her lifelong love of travel.

Bonnie’s career began with Braniff Airlines as a reservationist and phone operator. Her voice not only booked flights, it changed her life. On one serendipitous call, she met a charming man named Don Galyean. It was love at first ring; just four months and five bucks later; they spent the next 58 years creating a life full of stories, travel and unwavering love. Thanks to Braniff, Bonnie saw the world—Rio de Janeiro, Switzerland, Holland, Japan, the Philippines, Rome, Bangkok, and of course, a romantic honeymoon in Acapulco.

Bonnie later began her career at North Kansas City Hospital, where she served as a unit secretary until retirement. During this time she worked to build her business with Home Interiors eventually becoming a senior director, known for turning every space into a magazine-worthy masterpiece. She brought the same grace, excellence and eye for detail to the hospital halls as she did to every part of her life. Don never forgot stepping into her home for the first time—her white carpet was pristine, her decor flawless, and Bonnie even more so.

Bonnie was a proud member of Pisgah Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, shared her faith and gave children the kind of guidance only someone with her depth of spirit could offer. She adored her nieces and nephews, taking them on unforgettable trips to Colorado and spoiling them with laughter and love. Her family tree grew to include 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren each one a branch of her joy, each one treasured deeply.

She and Don were known to finish each other's sentences, punchlines, and tales, often leaving everyone in stitches or in awe. Her humor was matched only by her warmth—and she made sure her home (and her heart) were always open. She dove into hobbies with gusto: flower arrangements, sewing, scrapbooking, crafting—you name it, Bonnie tried it.

She was a perfectionist in the most endearing way. Even in her final days, gently reminding Don to adjust the angle of a picture frame or clear a surface—because details mattered to her. Her home reflected her spirit: elegant, ordered, vibrant, and full of life.

Bonnie is survived by her loving husband Don Galyean; daughter Carolyn Galyean (Junior); stepdaughter Debbie Summers (Greg); stepson Tim Galyean (Cheryl); sister Patricia; brother David (Peggy); beloved 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her many adored nieces and nephews.

She was reunited in peace with her parents Junior and Barbara Turner; step-sons Kenny and Jerry Galyean; sister Sharon; brothers Walter, Donnie, and Butch.
