Floyd Earl Hall

October 30, 1931 — August 14, 2024

Kansas City, MO

Floyd Earl Hall, widower husband to his beloved Shiela Hall, and son to the late Dorsey V. Hall and Lily S. Scoggins, was born October 30, 1931. Floyd passed away on his own terms, peacefully at the age of 92 years of age on August 14, 2024, surrounded by many loving family members and under the loving care of hospice.

Floyd grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina with his three brothers Vicky, Ernie, and William (“Bill”), and his sister Carolyn. Shortly after graduating high school, Floyd joined the Air Force where he served honorably as part of the 717th Strat Recon Squad, having received the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Metal during his service in Fayetteville and South Dakota.

After his time serving in active duty for the Air Force, Floyd found his way to Kansas City, Missouri, where he quickly met and married his beloved Shiela Hall. Together, Floyd and Shiela bought their cozy home where they raised their loving family and lived out their entire lives. After honorable discharge from his active-duty service in the Air Force, Floyd spent decades proudly serving in the local Air Force Reserves, stationed at Richards-Gebaur Air Reserve Station, until his retirement in 1993 with the discharge rank of Senior Master Sargent “E-8”.

Floyd worked for a time for Burlington Railroad, but proudly worked the majority of his adult life at Kenworth Trucks, eventually as a manager in the parts department, where every single solitary discontinued bolt, nut and screw found its way to a new home -- the “Floyd Hall Hardware Store” -- rather than being tossed away like trash. If you know Floyd Hall, you know he never wasted a single, solitary thing in his entire life -- his frugal, thrifty and fastidious nature is legendary! Floyd worked there until the assembly plant closed, but for decades after that, Floyd remained very active in the local Union Chapter, continuing many of those same life-long friendships.

Floyd and Shiela were very social, always hosting friends, neighbors and family for drinks and lots and lots of laughs. Floyd was a guy who had many, many friends, in large part because he was also a guy was always helping others. He was an incredibly kind and generous friend, father and grandpa. He was there at a moments’ notice if you needed anything at all.

Grandma and Grandpa’s house was Shangri-la for every grandchild - a magical place filled with so much love and laughter and fun, with Floyd taking so much care and time forming very special relationships with each and every grandchild. We can still hear the giggles and squeals that echo through the house as Grandpa chased after the kids, playing tirelessly outside, giving tons of hugs and squeezes to any grandkid who would take one.

There is nothing on this earth Floyd loved more than his family, and family get-togethers with Floyd sipping his margarita and playing washers in the backyard. He never wanted anyone to leave – he wanted the party to go on forever. Floyd told every single person what they meant to him. He didn’t leave anything unsaid.

Floyd has left a legacy of hard work, kindness, generosity, laughter, and fun, and an unconditional love and support that each and every one of his children and grandchildren carry forward with them in their lives. We all strive to be who he was in life.

Floyd is preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Shiela Hall and his loving grandson Mitch Tierney as well as his parents and two brothers, Vicky and Ernie. Floyd is survived by his daughter, Sue Tierney (married to Mitchell Tierney), and Floyd and Shiela’s 4 children: Teena Wackerman (married to Kevin Wackerman, and their son Conner Wackerman), Tim Hall (Married to Terrie Hall and their son Richard Conn), Troy Hall (married to Michele Hall and their children Taylor Robertson, Noah Hall and Halie Hall), and Teresa Bates (married to Carl Bates and their children Marissa (Bates) Merkle, Sierra (Bates) White, and Brianna Bates. Floyd is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Hendrixx Hall, Willow and Winnie White, and Clover Pummill. Floyd was incredibly humble, caring, ornery, and super fastidious. He will be incredibly missed by his family and friends.
