Shirley Ann Franklin

Shirley Ann Franklin was born December 30, 1954 in Passaic, New Jersey, to the late Mack and Rosa Mathis. On Tuesday, June 15, 2021 the Lord called her home at the age 66.

Shirley was educated in the Passaic Public School system in New Jersey. She worked at Rite Aide, The Fair retail store, and Love Clothes Ltd. retail store. Shirley was married in September 1973 to Rupert A. Stewart and had a son Rupert A. Stewart Jr.. Shirley and Cornelius Hutton Franklin were married on April 14, 1979 and had a son Jockeem M Franklin. Shirley resided in Passaic for over 40 years before moving to Burlington, New Jersey to care for her father in law from 2003-2005. After retiring Shirley relocated in Liberty, Missouri.

Shirley adored reading novels, watching the Oakland Raiders play football, Lakers playing basketball, professional ice skating, as well as playing spades with her family. Shirley was a well respected wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.

Shirley is preceded in death by bothers Mack Mathis Jr., Otis Mathis, and Clarence Mathis; nephew Otis Mathis Jr. Shirley is survived by her husband Cornelius H. Franklin; two sons, Rupert Andre Stewart Jr. and fiancé LaTaje Jackson, Jockeem Mathis Franklin and daughter in law Onekia Franklin; step son Cornelius Hutton Franklin Jr.; six grandchildren, Jental Stewart, Jazmin Franklin, Phoenix Stewart, Cheyenne Franklin, N’dea Stewart, Makayla Franklin; step grandchildren Daz Franklin, Natalia Franklin, Tatiana York, Chareana York, Joshua Graves, Xavion Burgos; sister Kathleen Farley; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Service Information:

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, Liberty, Missouri, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.  Private burial in Glenridge Cemetery, Liberty, Missouri.
